9.74s, the speed of averaging nearly 10.27 metres per second, was created by Asafa Powell on September 9th in Italy. A new world 100-metres record was born and shocked the whole world.

We may ask "Is there a speed limit of human which is unable to be exceeded forever?" No body can give a definite answer for this question, but one thing is for certain: the creation of the new miracle will be increasingly difficult, since the faster the speed is, the more power people should provide.

However, the fact may be opposite. From 1921 to 2007, the world 100-metres record was lowerd by 15 times, but we can find a surprise fact that the duration of a new record is shorter and shorter. For instance, it costed nearly 26 years, from 1968 to 1994, to lower the record 0.1s from the 9.95s to 9.85s; but the next 0.1s from 9.84s to 9.74s just spent 11 years, which is from 1996 to 2007 . Does people accelerate to create new miracle? Admittedly, the factor of scientific advance should be involved, but the endeavor that human bravely face to challenge and yearn to breakthrough should not be ignored. Without the spirit, people will lose the original impetus and enthusiasm of pursuing faster speed and stronger strength.

Even we may still find little practical significance of the breaking the world record now, neither in economic development nor social moral, it is the ideal of surmounting oneself that inspires people to make greater contribution in various fields. Actually, the scientific development and other creativity and innovation are quite similar to the runners' endeavor. In this sense, the faith of pursuing change and advance, or the so-called "passion", is essential to the human society, and also to the individual's life.
